Bruce had the vision for an orchard to supply a variety of fruit. An acre of land within the Flight Service area at Kalene was set aside for this reason. Fruit trees were purchased and flown up from Lusaka.
There was a grass fence put around this area which has a spectacular view of Kalene Hill. This is a quiet restful spot which became known as the Orchard Garden Get-A-Way. You would not think that such a busy hospital is only a kilometer away.
When Wayne and Judy Ferguson visited, Bruce showed them the orchard and mentioned his dream of building a quiet place for the rest and refreshment of missionaries, their families or short term workers.
They got involved. Wayne’s landscaping skill and design is seen in a floral walkway, in-ground pool, two grass roofed chotas (gazebos) and two chalets.
In the chalets there is room for a family to stay on one side, a couple and a single on the other.
This facility is self sustaining so contributions are given for its use.
